Is it always possible to believe the story will end like “happily married ever after”? Or do we dream it to happen in our lives? Of course, yes. I don’t believe there won’t be anyone who desires to have a messed up life with troubles and complications. But I have a word for everyone who admires other couples; you can have what they have if you invest. The Joy they have now is the result of what they have spent in forgetting and forgiving. And I have a request for those who are on the verge of throwing away their marriage vows, to walk an extra mile to set things right trusting God.

Are you ready to walk the extra mile with the one, Jesus who can save your marriage? Maybe you are overwhelmed by the things happening around you, or you might feel things are going out of your control. But still, God can save your marriage, if and only you trust.

Pray on your knees

Marriage is ordained by God and it His perfect will for His children.

“The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”[Genesis 2:18]

“The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man. That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.” [Genesis 2:23-24]

Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” [Mark 10:9]

Acknowledge your sins and pray for your spouse. God never tempts anyone. He has already given us the words of wisdom which we have to follow as the manual for our lives.

“When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed.” [James 1:13-14]

But always be comforted by the fact that God loves you and He still cares for you.

“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” [1 Corinthians 10:13]

There is no perfect marriage in this world, and only by the grace of God, we can build up our family. And His fellowship is the first and foremost pre-requisite for happy married life.

Pray for a forgiving spirit

Sometimes the pain, the shame you are going through, others may not be able to understand. But there is a God who calls you as the apple of His eye. Do you think He loves you to see you hurt? He has already gone through the pain and shame more than you ever endured. But He chose to forgive those who humiliated and nailed Him to the cross.

Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” [Like 23:24]

Can we follow the Lord and choose to forgive rather than keeping the bitterness in the heart.

Pray for a gentle and quiet spirit

A gentle and quiet spirit can do wonders. In our family lives, we face lots of struggles and issues due to arguing and challenging each other. It may be arguing about the differences or complaining about the misfortune that disrupts the unity. Sometimes when we have the sudden urge to talk back or question, just halt, tame your tongue not to talk back but in the quietness of the spirit, cry out to the Lord. He will comfort you.

“Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.” [1 Peter 3:4]

“Through patience a ruler can be persuaded, and a gentle tongue can break a bone.”[Proverbs 25:15]

Pray for a submissive spirit

“For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.”[ Ephesians 5:22-24]

What more should I add to this? The heart of the Lord is crystal clear in this verse. If we are obedient to the word of God, we can reap the fruit of obedience. Otherwise, we might ruin it.

When Jesus prayed in the Mount Olive, in deep anguish, He prayed to take away the cup of suffering (never wanted to lose His fellowship with the Father even for a single moment) from Him if possible. But He surrendered Himself to the will of the Father. We need to be filled with the spirit of Christ to be obedient to do the will of the Father in our lives.

Pray for a loving spirit

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. [1 Corinthians 13:4-5]

Sometimes the hurt might be so deep that we stop loving and start hating. But where will it lead us?

“Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers over all wrongs. ” [Proverbs 10:12]

The bible says we need to do good to those who hate us and pray for those who mistreat us. There is no better solution than this. Show your love and affection even when you are ill-treated and rejected. Always remember, if there is a cross, there is a resurrection too. So take courage and trust God completely. And when you feel down in your spirit, read the word of God, strike all the negative thoughts with this sword and move ahead.

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. [Psalm 147:3]

Pray and wait

We are praying to a God who is our Father and the one who loves us the most. We may not have control over what happens in our lives, but we have control over how we react to such circumstances. The question is whether we respond with faith or in doubt. Be comforted by the fact that these trials can prove you worthy of your faith in Lord Jesus Christ.

“These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith–of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire–may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.” [1 Peter 1:7]

“..but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

I might not understand the pain you are going through or the hurt you try to forget. But I am sure that there is a God who watches over you day and night, and who loves you more than anything in this world. Do you think the one who died for you on the cross is not mindful of this small need? He wants you to trust Him and grow in Him.

I would love to hear from you!!
