In my previous post “Encouragement to new moms in Christ,” I have mentioned how children learn obedience from parents. They help us to view our life from a different perspective, and they reflect us in whatever they do. For me, having my baby is a journey of sanctification as I realized how much my conduct with others is influencing him, especially my relationship with my husband.

Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. [Mathew 22:29]

We fail as a Christian because of our ignorance of God and His word. But if we are ready to accept our failures and wholly depend upon the grace of God, we will genuinely experience heaven on earth. We could build true Christian homes and raise godly children for the glory of God.

Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes.

And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

And thou shalt write them upon the door posts of thine house, and upon thy gates: That your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers to give them, as the days of heaven upon the earth. [Deuteronomy 11:18-21]

To build a heavenly home, we must follow the example of Christ who submitted to the will of Father. And there is no shortcut to this. He is the only way.

In my married life, we had ups and downs. When we started staying together, all the differences began to pile up, and the frustration started to ignite. I wanted a godly home with lots and lots of love and happiness, but it was not happening always.

And it was ME. I found it difficult to be submissive to my husband. But he patiently waited for me, and one day God opened my inner eyes and showed me this scripture portion:

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. [Philippians 2:5-8]

I have read this many times, but this time it was different. I knelt down and cried unto the Lord. It was overwhelming for me to understand that the Lord of heaven and earth, took the form of a servant, humbled himself and died on the cross to do the will of the Father. And if the will of the father in my life, as a wife is to be submissive to my husband, should I not do it?

Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.[Ephesians 5:22]

And if any of you is having a difficult marriage, believe that God is in control. And uphold this scripture portion in prayer.

Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.[ 1 Peter 3:1,2]

Now by meditating upon the word of God, and with the power of the holy spirit, if we live in Christ at our home and in our day to day activities, we can also reap the fruits of this obedience. Children will learn obedience eventually in a house where wives are submissive to their husbands.

thy children like olive plants round about thy table. [ Psalm 128:3]

After building a firm foundation, then we can continue to make the superstructure which requires extra efforts and skills. We can learn from different parenting techniques and opt the one best for our child. And as a mom, you know the best for your child!!

Everything may sound easy to hear, but it is difficult to practice. It is difficult to yield our “will” to build a heavenly home. One more thing, being submissive doesn’t mean to nod your head for everything. You can express your views when the children are not around but always leaving the final decision to the husband trusting the Lord.

As I always say my sisters in Christ, we need to run this race in perseverance and patience trusting the Lord forever.

Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. [Philippians 3:14,15]
