It is so easy to look for God or look TO God in church or with significant life events. In fact, for some, this is the only time that they reflect upon God or turn their attention to Him; in these bigger, more significant moments. However, God is seen in the smallest of everyday moments and there is always an opportunity to worship Him in the day to day, even in the mundane. Finding God in all things in life is so easy to do when you stop and look around you.
Finding God in All Things – In Nature
I live in a beautifully picturesque part of the state of Connecticut. I am surrounded by the beauty of nature everywhere I go, with beautiful rivers with amazing covered bridges. We have the most beautiful hills which burst into vibrant stunning colors every fall. The wildlife we get to experience on a day to day basis here is like all the beauty of nature right at your doorstep and we cherish that and enjoy the wildlife while we also respect it. We also have beaches nearby with historic lighthouses. It is just an amazing place to call home. It is the most spectacular place to visit, especially by RV where you can visit and stay in all its amazing locations.
But you don’t have to live in New England to see God’s presence in nature every day. If you go for a walk through a park, take a trip to the zoo, stroll through the woods or past a lake, God’s presence is felt if you just take the time to stop and really look for Him there. Sometimes, we get so busy and think about our to-do lists as we walk, we can easily miss the beauty God has painted for us there.
Taking Nature for Granted
We moved to South Florida several years ago and I was in awe of these massive palm trees! They were stunning!! I told my husband when we moved there that I would never take the beauty of those palm trees for granted. And while I never really took them for granted, I maybe didn’t appreciate the awesomeness of them on a regular basis as I did in the beginning. In other words, when I stopped to really take them in they took my breath away just as much as the beginning. But because I was living there and would get busy, I would not stop to “see them” as much as I did.Finding God in all things in life is so easy to do when you stop and look around you. Click To Tweet
But just because we see palm trees every day or we get to drive by majestic mountains each weekend doesn’t make them any less special. If you want to appreciate God in the everyday, then look to, and do your part to conserve nature.
God has given us a beautiful world to live in. We need to stop and appreciate it and notice Him in it more often!
Finding God in All Things – In People
Have you ever had a really bad day and someone you don’t even know does something to brighten your day? Maybe it is a compliment or an act of kindness. Perhaps they pay for your coffee at the drive-thru or a co-worker takes you to lunch.
God can and does use people in our lives, to give us encouragement, wisdom, guidance and sometimes even just a smile when we need one.God can and does use people in our lives, to give us encouragement, wisdom, guidance and sometimes even just a smile when we need one Click To Tweet
The news and social media would have us believe that everyone is at odds with each other or that people are just naturally distrustful or intolerant. But if you step away from the news or the internet for a while and get out there to experience people yourself you will find that is NOT the case.
Most people are good, kind, loving people who will give help when needed.
God will put people in your path when you need it. He will show you He hears you or sees your need by sending you the right person at the right time.
But, as with nature, some of us just don’t get out there enough to experience it. We tend to stay to ourselves and think that people just don’t want to be bothered. That is so not the case.
Find out about what events are going on in your community and try to get involved! Take your dog to the dog park and sit and chat with other dog lovers! Attend events at your church rather than just going on Sundays. Perhaps a Bible study group or a Praise and Worship Night.
God will take these opportunities to send people into your life to encourage you OR maybe for you to be an encouragement to!!
Finding God in All Things – Little Nuggets
God also has a way of showing Himself to us in the mundane things we do at home as well!
I wrote a post a while back about a whole spiritual lesson God showed me in a cup of coffee I had that morning!
You see, God will show you His presence in something as routine as sweeping your floors or loading the dishwasher if you are looking for Him and seeking those little nuggets from Him.
I love the things God shows me in life’s mundane tasks. If you just listen for Him or, when something happens, just ask “God what do you want me to learn in this moment?”, He will show you!
Life is full of beauty and those “grand moments” that take our breath away. But life is also full of what we might also call boring or routine, and God is in those moments just as much as He is in the breathtaking ones!
He wants to be present in every single aspect of our lives and our surroundings!
The Heavens Declare
We should be IN the world…be IN the moment…be IN the scenery…be IN that special place…just don’t be OF it. By finding God in all things, in His creation and in the little things we can easily overlook, finding God in ALL things in life, helps us to experience the beauty of His creation while keeping our eyes on Him.
