When it comes to marriage, I feel I haven’t yet learned to keep it more lovely and vibrant. Even though I wish to have always the beautiful spring season, sometimes it shows me all the seasons of life. I appreciate those who are great in their marriage life, and for me, it is either excellence or failure. I don’t believe God wishes me to have a dull marriage life, He is the father of excellence and has ordained marriage and found it good. But does this mean marriage is perfect from day one? What is the secret for a successful marriage life?
Encouragement for Marriage
The most vulnerable thing that can fragment the vows of marriage is differences in opinion. We cannot have everything, but we can have control over what we decide to possess or lose. In one of my post, the beauty of a submissive wife, I tried to explain how the act of submission can transform marriage life. It is not easy, and I am again saying, submission is hard for me too!
And one of the bible verse I would like to mediate about submission is John 12:24, “Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds”. Jesus might not have used this verse in the context of submission. But it is one of my favorite verse from the bible that I would like to uphold in my Christian walk.
How to work out differences in opinion? I am not ready to believe marriage life has zero friction. And this friction happens when there is a conflict between differences in ideas, perspectives or even the personalities. So, it is evident that when two people are getting married, all the conflicts as mentioned above can happen. But how can we tackle these specific issues that can eventually take away the happiness from marriage? Marriage is beautiful when two people are submitting to each other, considering one other’s interests more than their own. But there are certain situations when this yielding may not work out, and we try to defend our views. And what would be the possible outcome? The deceiver easily takes out the beauty from this divine call and leaves it barren.
So, what is the solution?
What is my role in marriage?
But I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. (1 Corinthians 11:3)
- Be the leader of your family (1 Corinthians 11:3)
- Treat your wife equal as there is no difference between male or female in the eyes of God (Galatians 3:28)
- Love your wife unconditionally as Christ loved the church (Ephesians 5:25)
- Express your love through words and actions (1 John3:18)
- Serve your wife in her daily needs as Jesus was ready to take up the role of a servant (Mathew 20:28)
- Meet the needs of the family (1 Timothy 5:8)
- Allow your husbands to be the leader of the family (1 Corinthians 11:3)
- Even though men and women are equal in the eyes of God, women are created to help husbands to be the man God destined him to be ( Genesis 2:18)
- Love your husband and submit to him as you do to the Lord (Ephesians 5:22)
- Express your love through respecting and submitting to his leadership (Colossians 3:18)
- Serve your husband as Jesus was ready to take up the role of a servant (Mathew 20:28)
- Wives need to primarily take care of the needs of the family and support husbands (Titus 2:5), ( Proverbs 10:10-31)

It is easy to read and understand our role in marriage, but how many of us really try to achieve the life God wants us to enjoy. Hardly few, and nowadays, the issues that are infiltrating to destroy many marriages are alarmingly high.
Before listing out the verses to fight discouragement in marriage, I would like to remind you about the greatest commandment in the bible without which no one can please God.
Our God is not only a sovereign power who is listening to our prayers, but He is a father who is looking for people who loves Him wholeheartedly, even in the worst situations, in thankfulness, by trusting Him.
“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?
Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’
This is the first and greatest commandment.
And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’
All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (Mathew 22:36-40)
